English Language Discussion Group.
ELDG is back! Due to popular demand we will meet at Aguda at the church at 19:30 (or 7:30pm in English) on Tuesday 24 August. There will be a meal together, so please let us know if you intend to come. All are welcome - especially including people who don't come to church.
Although we do usually meet in the Foz area of Porto every Tuesday between 9pm -11pm, our numbers seem to have decreased lately due to the holiday season. For this reason, we may decide to suspend the group until the end of August. Therefore, please contact Alison, or the church office, if you are interested in attending the discussion group during August. If there are enough people interested the group can meet as usual, either in Foz or at another location if Alison is away.
However, the English Language Discussion Group will definately recommence on Tuesday, August 31st at Alison's home in Foz.
13th July
The group watched the short documentary film 'Jesus Camp', which focuses on Pastor Becky Fischer's "Kids on Fire" summer camp, held in North Dakota, where children as young as six years old are "taught to become dedicated Christian soldiers" and "schooled in how to take back America for Christ".
During the discussion of the film which followed, members of the group voiced their concern over some of the tactics used by Becky Fischer and members of her team, when dealing with the young impressionable minds of children. There was a lot of discussion about the pros and cons of these types of 'childrens' ministries' and any possible future negative consequences.
6th July
One of the members of the group asked light-heartedly 'what Jesus would think of TV today?' This sparked a lengthy discussion about the positive and (mostly) negative effects of television, as well as the types of programmes which are currently shown in countries such as Russia, Bulgaria and UK, and government censorship and control of television channels.
